Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Definition of Internal Auditing: Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve an organization’s operations. It helps an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.

The Office of Auditor was established in 1911 in counties of 75,000 or more in population. Since then, there have been several statutory changes to the Office of Auditor. In our over 100 year history, one thing has not changed - namely, providing citizens with accountability and transparency regarding county government finances.

This site was developed to inform the residents of Kankakee County of the role and responsibilities of the Kankakee County Auditor’s Office, to provide Kankakee County citizens financial and operational transparency and accountability of Kankakee County Government, to provide a means to report suspected  fraud, waste, or abuse, and  to encourage Kankakee County citizens and officials to participate, collaborate, and continue moving Kankakee County forward.
